In the midst of getting ready at my "old" school, busy, busy, busy - I have an interview MOnday morning with Redford Union public schools...I don't even know what grades I would teach in the Special Education dept, they dont' tell you much on the phone. Does anyone know anything about this district? Is it right outside the city of Detroit, so it's a step up!
If anyone knows anything, I'd appreciate it. I
SOOO glad it's the weekend!

I had a great weekend though, Frankenmuth is fun, bought too much at Birch Run. Saw a baby pug that I wanted to take home :)

NEWS RELEASE
Albion College Names Donna Randall as 15th President
ALBION, MICH.-Albion College today (Friday, Feb. 23) announced the appointment of its 15th president, Dr. Donna M. Randall, currently the provost at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. Randall is the first woman president in the college's 172-year history. She succeeds Dr. Peter T. Mitchell, who is retiring in June after 10 years in the Albion presidency. Randall's appointment will be effective July 1, 2007. The appointment, affirmed this morning by the Albion College Board of Trustees, concludes a national search that has been conducted since August and involved trustee, faculty, staff and student representatives. “Donna Randall will bring extraordinary leadership abilities to her role as Albion's president,” said Richard Baird, chairman of the College's Board of Trustees. “She is a seasoned academic administrator and a talented scholar-teacher, with profound insights on how our nation's colleges-and Albion, in particular-can and should prepare students for global citizenship in the 21st century. In addition, she will bring an open and collaborative approach to her work as president that will encompass not only the campus community but alumni and members of the greater Albion community as well. In Donna Randall, I believe we will have a creative and courageous leader who will build on our traditional strengths and help shape a vibrant future for Albion College.” Randall has served since 2000 as provost at the University of Hartford, an independent, coeducational institution with approximately 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students. In that role, she has provided leadership for the university's seven colleges and schools, as well as international programs, the honors program, and admissions and financial aid. She has chaired a number of strategic planning initiatives at the university, and has helped secure funds for the honors program and instructional technology. A board member for the university's Mortensen Library and Hartford Art School, Randall has also been active regionally, serving as chair of evaluation teams for the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. “I am excited about the opportunity to provide leadership for a college with such a distinguished and long history of providing students with an exceptional liberal arts education,” Randall said. “Many graduates of Albion have assumed positions of prominence in both the private and public sectors. I look forward to raising the national visibility of an institution that is not only educating students to be citizens in a rapidly changing world, but also preparing them to be leaders who initiate that change.” Prior to joining the University of Hartford, Randall served as dean and professor of management at the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis (Tenn.) from 1995 to 1999 and then was interim senior vice provost for academic affairs in 1999-2000. While at Memphis she participated in fundraising initiatives supporting faculty development and advancements in information technology, including attracting seed funding for a $23-million FedEx Institute of Technology. She served on the boards of Junior Achievement of Memphis and Goals for Memphis. She was also involved nationally in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). From 1984 to 1995 Randall was on the faculty of the Department of Management and Systems at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., serving as department chair from 1992 to 1995. During that time, she also spent a year as a visiting professor at University College-Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. An accomplished scholar, she has written extensively about ethical decision-making in the professions and is a past editorial board member of the “Journal of Business Ethics.” Her other research interests include workplace safety issues and employee rights, organizational behavior, and work motivation. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Randall holds a B.A. in sociology from Drake University, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from Washington State University, and an M.B.A., also from Washington State. She participated in the Institute for Educational Management for Senior Executive Leadership at Harvard University. She is married to Dr. Paul R. Hagner, an educational technology consultant, and they have a daughter, Kate, who is currently a first-year student at Suffolk University in Boston studying psychology and creative writing. They will relocate to Albion at the end of June. “When my husband and I visited the Albion area and we were greeted with such warmth and openness,” Randall said, “we knew that this was a community that we wanted to be part of.” A national and regional leader in academics, information technology, the arts and athletics, Albion College is committed to the theme of “Liberal Arts at Work.” Located in Albion, Mich., it has an enrollment of 1,950 students. Albion is listed among the Top 100 national liberal arts colleges in the “America's Best Colleges” guide, published by “U.S. News & World Report.”

Having a cold and losing my voice stinks!!! I'm so bored and lonely...I slept all afternoon and can't call anyone. I know I'm whining so I'll keep this short. I went into work bc I had an IEP scheduled, but the parent didn't show up and then my co-workers made me go home. A teacher isn't very good when unable to talk. I even had plans tonight, and I'm stuck at home. Time to go see what's on OnDemand.

OMG Grey's Anatomy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They can not, CAN NOT let that happen (it's hard but I don't want to give anything away in case someone hasn't seen it yet)! I believe they won't and yes I am being ridiculous, I blame it on the nyquil...and it's time for bed. Since I won't be able to tell anyone at work my feelings, I have to try and do it here-I was crying the last 10 minutes of the show-whow, tv can be so powerful. No wonder they won best drama this year, Shondra (last name?) is an amazing writer!!

The good news: the school finally hired a part time special ed teacher, and she's awesome! She worked in a resource room for at least 4 years in Special Education, and then she took time off to have kids, now she's works at a dance company in Dearborn, so she's only working here part time, but she's great I can already tell.
Today, she was shadowing my reading/SFA class and my voice slowly disappeared...wierd. I lose my voice every couple years and I do not like it! I even have plans this weekend with some girl friends, girls night out and I hope I feel ok tomorrow!
I got some valentine's treats from my students', it was so cute. One of my 5th graders came up and gave me a hug too ( I don't see him any more the other teacher services him now) it's nice to be missed I guess!)
Laura, hang in there, I totally understand some of what you're going through-we have plenty of sad/ridiculous cases of parents/children (almost neglect) at my school too...

Wow, a once in my career event I'm sure...unless I move to Northern MI, and who knows-maybe I will someday...anyways-day 2 off because of the negative degree weather! Craziness. Again, my school was one of the last to call off-at least they did it before midnight.
Yesterday was a very lazy, stay inside day...I did go to the library, taco bell and my dad's for a bit. Came home and lounged, watching movies and reading. I did some reserach online for class.
Today though, I hope to be more productive-working on my classess. I registered for Spring semester and get into both my classes I have left (5 credits) and they end June 29, so I have a summer break-whoohoo! That should motivate be to get some work done.
Keep warm everyone, and have a great Tuesday :)

Who closes school at 6:50am?? DPS closed at 6:30am and we followed...I had even started my car, but glad I checked again. anyways, I'm going back to bed! __________________________________________________________________________________
*original rant*
SOoo....most of the State has no school bc of the cold. Does my school may you ask? WEll their may be 5 kids there, but yes we have school. We would have off if DPS had off, but they probably won't close bc of the strike, they started late. Screw DPS! That's all I'm going to say.
While my entire family is warm in their beds here I go out in to the cold... :(

| | content | ] | I tried posting earlier and it didn't post...ggrr. That's when copy and paste comes in handy. Well, back to work tomorrow-but I think I'm ready (until my alarm goes off in the morning!) ready to get back to work and see my students, start another semester of school and get done with another semester. I'm ready for winter to be over, haha it's hardly begun but if it's not going to snow than just be warm!
New year's was alot of fun, went to two fun parties-saw the Albion gang at one, and some highschool oldest freinds at the other. Overall, my winterbreak was pretty laid back and relaxing, I got to see alot of friends and my family alot. I'm very thankful for that. My family and friends are so great. My last post was such a downer, but I'm feeling better now... I just hope tomrrow isn't too depressing! I'm really disappointed in myself that I have gained weight and I'm really going to try and work hard at losing it...I think I will feel better about that too.
I'm not going to be able to sleep tonite so maybe I won't try to go to bed early like I usually do, I just lay there...I can finish re-reading Harry potter, I'm only on book 1.
Well Happy New Year everyone! |

| Perfect for today and upcoming days... |

First Corinthians 13: A Christmas Version
If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.
If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child. Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is kind, though harried and tired. Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens. Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way. Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return, but rejoices in giving to those who can't. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of love will endure. |

| should be wrapping presents... |
[Dec. 20th, 2006|06:49 pm] |
But I'm updating instead.
Break is Finally here!! Almost two weeks off..do I even need a mental break.
I have lots of plans-sleeping in, seeing movies with various people (starting tonite-free movie preview!), building gingerbread house with my nieces, wrapping presents, seeing friends who are visiting home for the holidays, sleeping, cleaning apartment, getting together with friends in town who I haven't seen, and the list goes on... Going to the cemetary tomorrow with my dad, it's the anniversary -5 years-for my mom. He stays for like two minutes and then is ready to go-which is so funny bc it's an hour drive to get there, oh well at least we go and put a pretty wreath/blanket on the gravesite.
Merry Christmas everyone- travel safely if you are flying, taking a bus, train, car, etc! |
